The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is to host a major seafood conference in the Faroe Islands on 28 May 2009. The focus will on the market situation in general, and in light of the present economic crisis i.e. how the market melt down will affect Faroese companies.
Other questions of relevance to the Faroese trade are to what extent the Faroese fishing industry is based on sustainable practices and the importance of being able to trace the fish back to sustainable production methods. The opportunities in the globalized market will also be addressed.
Mrs. Durita ì Grótinum, project manager and coordinator of the conference says that the purpose of the conference is to raise and answer questions about the market which are of particular relevance to the Faroese fishing industry. The intention is to give participants a comprehensive market overview including information on the customers´ needs and demands and how the Faroese industry can comply with these needs and demands and improve practices accordingly.
It is hoped that the conference will contribute to a better understanding and dialogue between the industry and the experts and thereby close the present gap between the two parties. The conference will be held at the Nordic House, and will run concurrently with the Faroe Fish Expo trade fair held in the vincinity of the Nordic House.
